There are many problems behind it
Compared with environmental activists, other people are simply terrible. In contrast, the quality of personality is judged.
Poor activity, no will, no rules and agreements
In order to facilitate communication between neighbors and to jointly maintain the environmental sanitation of the apartment, Ingunn, the number one activist in public affairs, created a WhatsApp group, and we included all the neighbors in the group.
We held three community meetings in the first month, and the theme of the meeting was: revising the standards and rules for cleaning and garbage sorting. The meeting time is chosen after 8:00-9:00 pm to avoid as much as possible the situation where most people cannot attend the meeting due to objective reasons (work, class).
Only a few (4) people attended the meeting and actively discussed it. Judging from the proportion of participants, only 1/5 were willing to participate in discussing public affairs;
Everyone is in the whatsapp group, and most people choose to ignore the messages of the community meeting and do not express any attitudes or wishes;
Others passed by the kitchen and living room and saw us having a meeting, but they did not participate, indicating that most people were not subjectively willing to participate in any community public affairs;
Judging from the maintenance status of shared files, most people are unwilling to check the meeting minutes. They do not know that such a meeting exists, or they know about the meeting, but choose to ignore or deny such a community meeting;
Therefore, most people will not take the initiative to write and maintain community shared files;
This means that there is currently no community-wide health agreement and cleaning standards are simply the unilateral ideas of a few (4) of us.
Ingunn has called meetings three times and has spent so much time, but still hasn’t cleaned up the public area. Why can’t he do such a simple thing? Very absurd!
Hygienic habits are the main contradiction
Some people just randomly clean a certain area under our repeated urging, which is to fool us. They have never done a complete cleaning, whether in their personal rooms or public areas;
They don’t have personal cleaning tools. Some of the guys don’t buy detergent and toilet paper. They don’t even know where the cleaning tools are because they just do everything with their hands. Of course, they don’t ask us “where are the tools?” ;
They don’t know how to use cleaning tools correctly. For example, after using a mop, they usually don’t clean it. The black mop covered with dirt is left to soak in a dirty bucket. There may have been a few in the humid bathroom. Day, it started to stink. Next time, when we do cleaning, how should we use it? We still have to rely on three of us environmental activists to clean the mop.
Many people are lazy and throw all the dirty things into the washing machine, even the dirtiest mops. The washing machine is used to wash clothes and has a higher degree of cleanliness, not to wash mops;
Maybe they have different concepts of hygiene, don’t know how to clean, they don’t know a lot of common sense, or they just avoid responsibility because they are lazy;
When we urge someone to do cleaning for the first time, it can be understood that there has not been sufficient communication, which is normal;
If a second or third meeting and urging are needed, it means that they are completely passive rather than proactive, and there is no need to urge for the fourth time. As long as the other party has no intention and does not take the initiative to clean, no amount of urging will be meaningless and may even make the other party disgusted.
Lack of garbage classification
At first, they were littering in the common area of the room. They were advised by a few of us environmental activists. We kept sending messages in the group telling everyone "how to sort garbage" and helping others do the sorting. After 3 weeks, they finally There has been some progress.
They look at the garbage classification labels, but they don’t know how to sort the garbage. Even if they are told how to throw away the garbage face to face, they still often throw it in the wrong place;
Many people in real-life cases come from poor countries, or from special cultural backgrounds, such as North Africa, especially refugees. The living environment in their birthplace may not have garbage classification at all, everything is messy, and people have developed this habit since childhood. The habit of littering is difficult to improve in a short period of time.
Selfishness and lack of responsibility for public affairs
Many people are always smiling and verbally supporting the cleaning. But there is no practical action, and they do not clean up the tiny dirt they leave behind every day, such as dust and oil on toilets, floors, tables, and kitchen counters. They always leave the garbage to others.
Moreover, they have no sense of responsibility for the community and public affairs, and treat letters in public mailboxes carelessly, resulting in the loss and damage of some important documents.
Our apartment also has the bottom two floors, and those residents have no communication with us. I am quite busy, so I don’t know the background information of these neighbors.
Even people on the same floor don't even clean their own rooms, let alone take the initiative to clean public stairs.
So our public stairs are also included in the scope of my responsibilities.
